Chicago Opens its Vaults

CT scanners have helped The Field Museum in Chicago uncover the secrets of 20 mummies from Egypt and Peru held in their collection. Visitors to the exhibition entitled "Opening the Vaults: Mummies" can now see what lies beneath their wrappings.

The Egyptian mummies were purchased from the Egyptian government in 1893 and many have never been on display since there last viewing at the World's Columbian Exposition. Some of the 19th century display cases can be seen.

The exhibition runs until 22 April.
