An unassuming cigarette tin held in the collection of the Warmambool Art Gallery contains an enigmatic piece of linen which the museum is trying to confirm has connections to ancient Egypt.
ABC South West Victoria reports that the inside of the tin is decorated with pictures of Cairo; also contained inside are several handwritten notes saying that the linen is from a mummy's tomb in Memphis from the period of Unas. It also indicates a scarab insect should also be inside the tin, but it is now missing. A further handwritten card mentions that the wrapping was gifted as a souvenir around 1910.
