Royal Albert Memorial Museum is Museum of the Year

I was really pleased to hear that the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter has been proclaimed 'museum of the year' winning an Art Fund prize of £100,000.  The Victorian museum, which opened in 1868, has recently undergone a major redevelopment and has an eclectic mix of Egyptian artefacts, archaeology, paintings, textiles and even a giraffe called Gerald.  The museum reopened its door in December 2011 after a £24m lottery grant.  Here is the report from the Guardian.
