A exhibition of photographs is to be shown next year in Edinburgh, entitled Cairo to Constantinople: Early Photographs of the Middle East. Beginning on 8 March 2013 and continuing until 21 July 2013, it will be held in The Queen's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The photographs document a tour carried out by the Prince of Wales - later to become King Edward VII - in 1862 to the Middle East. The images were taken by Francis Bedford, a British photographer, who was the first to photograph a royal tour. Countries visited included Egypt, Palestine, the Holy Land, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Greece.
