Glasgow's Burrell Collection could become closed to the public due to the museum having to undertake extensive repairs. Some of the 8000 objects held at the museum may be lent for display abroad.
Sir William Burrell (1861-1958) originally gave his collection to the city on the grounds that the items would not be lent internationally as he feared travel may damage them. The museum is expected to close between 2016 and 2020 and to allow the items to be lent oversees, a special parliamentary bill will need to be passed.
